Yuen Biao vs. Lau Kar Wing – Knockabout (1979)

I talk about choreography a lot and how good fight choreography…

I talk about choreography a lot and how good fight choreography basically makes me jizz myself.
Good fight choreography is like watching a ballet (I imagine). It’s hypnotizing and beautiful…as well as brutal. There’s a reason a number of kung fu stars (Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Ziyi, Leung Kar Yan etc.) got their start in dance.

Anyway, watch this clip and tell me it isn’t super graceful. In my opinion, this might be the finest weapons scene ever filmed. What these two do with a sword and spear is unbelievable.
Granted, there is talk of the fight scene being sped up to make it look better but, even so, the stuff they do while fighting is incredible.
I don’t understand how someone watches this stuff and isn’t immediately dumbfounded at how amazing it is. I have friends that just don’t give a shit about stuff like this. They just cannot see the enjoyment in it and I just can’t contemplate how. This shit is visual poetry.
